REFLECTION: 2023 was a good year!

On Dec. 14, 2023 the Kentucky Baptist Foundation (KBF) hosted a luncheon for current and former board members, current and former staff members and invited guests for time fellowship and an update on our operations.

I was pleased to report that the global and domestic markets have had a strong performance, inflation is stabilizing, and the job market is trending in a positive direction. KBF’s assets undermanagement were buoyed by the markets and had additional investments to assist our bottom line.

The KBF adopted the “Brighter Initiative (BI)” in 2022 — and it is serving as our vision. The vision is inspired by Matthew 5:16 and the instruction to “let your light shine before others.” KBF is seeking to connect with KBC pastors and churches, contribute to causes that build His Kingdom and create opportunities to be a blessing to others. Each day your KBF has been faithful in following these goals.

The best news that is that the churches, institutions and agencies are being blessed by God. Here are a few anecdotal examples:

Churches are investing in God’s work. Many of the churches I am visiting report increased giving and strong support of the Cooperative Program. I urge you to continue this strong effort. KBF opened 65 new accounts from KBC churches, agencies and institutions. On behalf our KBF team, thank you.

The KBF is advancing His work. It is exciting to announce that the KBF distributed over $7.2 million to Baptist caused in 2023! This included numerous grants for KBC projects, flood relief, disaster relief, water wells in Southeast Asia and important investments in urban and social ministries. Souls are being impacted by the work of your KBF.

Better days are ahead. The KBF started the Short Term fund nearly two years ago and a great number of KBC churches are enjoying the solid return for their investments, currently 4.25 percent in our stable value fund with daily liquidity. This extra income has made a substantial difference in many ministries. Our board in currently examining other opportunities for our KBC, I believe the best is yet to come.

While many look at the headlines and see dark days for religious institutions, I see it differently. I am reminded in Hebrews 13:8 that “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever.” Let us be determined to continue the good work that has been once delivered to the saints.
