LOUISVILLE, Ky. (KT) – The Kentucky Baptist Foundation (KBF) is helping fund the Great Commission among women in Kentucky. Dr. French B. Harmon, president and CEO of the foundation, wants to help equip women in KBC churches to fulfill their roles in serving the Lord.
KBF has provided two important resources to equip women across the state: Women Leading Well by Dr. Emily Dean (New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary) and Empowered & Equipped by Dr. Julia Higgins (Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary).
Sara Robinson, women’s ministry and transition consultant for the Kentucky Baptist Convention, said she is “grateful for the generosity of Dr. Harmon and the KBF in providing resources for attendees of this month’s ‘Cultivate’ event for women.” Cultivate will be Oct. 20-21 at Immanuel Baptist Church in Lexington.
Each attendee at Cultivate will receive a copy of Women Leading Well. The book was published this year prior to the SBC Annual Meeting. Author Emily Dean explains, “My desire in creating this resource is to help women discover and develop leadership skills for serving in ministry leadership through navigating calling, understanding spiritual giftings and identifying practical implications for everyday ministry.” Robinson said Women Leading Well has been met with excitement and enthusiasm among women across the SBC.
Similarly, copies of Empowered & Equipped will be used to resource women’s ministry leaders across the state. Julia Higgins’ book guides readers through interpretation, application and teaching Scripture passages. She shares, “It is my hope and prayer that Empowered & Equipped will awaken women to the importance of studying and teaching God’s Word to those in their sphere of influence — and in doing so, may the churches of the KBC be strengthened for the work of the Great Commission.”
Across the KBC, Robinson said she is sensing renewed energy and attention to women’s ministry in the local church. “The women in KBC churches are particularly interested in intergenerational ministry that unites women of all ages for gospel advancement. Women’s ministries play an important role in meeting the unique needs of women in the church and helps to equip them as faithful servants.”
